Muskoka Lakes Flood Emergency Declared

MUSKOKA LAKES – As a result of continuing rising water levels, at 11:34 a.m. on Sunday, April 28, 2019, Mayor Phil Harding has declared an Emergency under the Emergency Management & Civil Protection Act, and the Township of Muskoka Lakes has activated its Emergency Plan. The Township’s Emergency Control Group (ECG) is monitoring the situation closely.

Members of the media are invited to attend a media conference regarding the Flood Emergency, taking place on Sunday, April 28, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at the Bala Community Centre.

The Township of Muskoka Lakes Emergency Control Group met on Saturday, April 27, 2019 and the morning of Sunday, April 28, 2019 to discuss the situation and will continue to monitor conditions.

Further updates will be provided at the 3:00 p.m. media conference. Residents are encouraged to monitor local media outlets, the MNRF and the Township of Muskoka Lakes website for updates on water levels and recommended action.

Township staff will continue to communicate all information by means of media releases to radio stations and local newspapers, social media and municipal website.
