Township of Muskoka Lakes Reports Incident to Spills Action Centre

MUSKOKA LAKES – The Township of Muskoka Lakes has been advised of an excavator located in the Moon River by the Bala Fall’s. Township officials have reported the incident to Ontario’s Spills Action Centre. The Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks under provincial regulations operates the Spills Action Centre to track environmental issues and ensure responsible parties respond to spill events as per their legislative responsibility.

“Though this is technically out of the jurisdiction of the Township, in conjunction with the District, we will continue to request CRT and Swift River Energy Limited do everything in their power to avoid incidents of this nature going forward as construction activities on the power plant shift from the water to land,” says Mayor Phil Harding.

The Township will continue to monitor the situation.
