Reduced Load Period

Each year, from March 1 to approximately May 31, all roads within the Township of Muskoka Lakes road system are subject to reduced load restrictions to protect road infrastructure during seasonal thaw conditions.

During this period, a maximum load limit of 5 tonnes per axle is in effect until May 31, or until a date determined by Township staff when the restrictions can be safely lifted.

Current Status

Half-load restrictions are in effect as of Sunday, March 1, 2026

Truck Route Requirements

Truck operators travelling through the Township without making a local delivery are legally required to use designated permissive truck routes only.

Weight and Dimension Regulations

All Township roads are subject to the weight and dimension limits set out in the Highway Traffic Act. An Oversize/Overweight Permit is required for individuals or companies transporting loads that exceed Ontario Ministry of Transportation limits for height, length, width, or weight.

Exemptions during the reduced load period are rarely granted and will be considered only in exceptional circumstances, and only when the load is non-divisible.
