Heat Warning Alert – Cooling Centres Available in the Township of Muskoka Lakes
Muskoka Lakes, ON – A heat warning has been issued by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit. Environment Canada has advised that dangerously hot and humid conditions will persist throughout today, with relief expected by the evening of June 24. Daytime high temperatures may reach up to 33°C, with humidex values approaching 40.
The Township of Muskoka Lakes is encouraging residents to take precautions and use available cooling centres if needed.
“Residents are reminded to check on vulnerable individuals, such as seniors and people with medical conditions, to ensure they are ok during the heat spell,” says Ryan Murrell, community emergency management coordinator and Fire Chief for the Township of Muskoka Lakes.

- Open Monday to Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Port Carling Fire Station – 1 Lee Valley Drive, Port Carling
- Open Monday to Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Muskoka Lakes Public Library - Bala branch – 1008 Maple Ave, Bala
- Open from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Tips for Staying Safe During Extreme Heat
- Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day.
- Avoid strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat hours (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.).
- Seek shade or air-conditioned spaces, including Township cooling centres.
- Check in on vulnerable individuals, including seniors and those with health conditions.
- Never leave children or pets in parked vehicles.
