MUSKOKA LAKES, ON, October 21, 2025 – The Muskoka Lakes Fire Department is now accepting applications for the 2026 Volunteer Firefighter Recruit Class.

Volunteer firefighters play a vital role in the Muskoka Lakes community. From emergency response to supporting public safety initiatives, the position offers a wide range of opportunities to contribute, learn new skills, and serve alongside a dedicated team committed to keeping the community safe.

“When our neighbours need us, we’re there,” said Ryan Murrell, Fire Chief. “Volunteers are the heart of our service and with every new member, our ability to protect and serve Muskoka Lakes only grows stronger.”

Applications are accepted throughout the year, but those interested in being considered for the 2026 Recruit Training Program are encouraged to apply by January 11, 2026.

“Safety in Muskoka Lakes is something we all build together,” said Mayor Peter Kelley. “Volunteering with the Muskoka Lakes Fire Department is joining a team made up of our neighbours, co-workers, and friends who work side by side to protect the community we all call home. If you’ve ever thought about getting involved, now is the time.”

The program includes classroom instruction, hands-on skills training, proficiency assessments, and written and practical testing across all core areas of structural firefighting. Upon completion, recruits will undergo provincial certification testing under National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards.

The 2026 Recruit Training Schedule is now available at Volunteer Firefighters | Township of Muskoka Lakes
