Township of Muskoka Lakes Launches New Tools to Support Short Term Rental Accommodations Program

Residents and visitors can now access a dedicated local hotline and online form to report concerns, and an interactive map to verify licensed short-term rentals.

MUSKOKA LAKES, ON, March 31, 2026 – The Township of Muskoka Lakes (“Township”) has launched two new tools to support its Short Term Rental Accommodations (“STRA”) licensing program, including a dedicated local hotline and online form for reporting concerns, along with an interactive map identifying licensed short-term rental properties in Muskoka Lakes.

The Township’s Short Term Rental Accommodation Licensing By-law 2025-049, came into effect on Apr. 16, 2025, and was established to license, regulate and govern short-term rental operations. Together, the by-law and these new tools support a safer, more transparent rental environment by making it easier to access information, verify licensed properties and report concerns when they arise.

Interactive Map of Licensed Short-Term Rentals

Available online through the Short Term Rental Accommodations webpage on muskokalakes.ca, the new interactive map identifies short-term rentals licensed to operate within the Township of Muskoka Lakes, under By-law 2025-049. With a number of applications still under review, additional properties will be added as approvals are processed by the Township’s Licensing Officer.

By making this information publicly available, the Township seeks to create a more transparent and accountable short-term rental framework, while giving renters and residents a reliable way to verify rental properties.

24/7 Reporting Support for STRA Concerns

Residents and visitors can now report concerns related to short-term rentals through a dedicated telephone hotline or online form. Available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the service is designed to receive concerns as they arise and support a timelier response. To help facilitate this, the Township’s Short Term Rental Accommodation Licensing By-law 2025-049 has made it a requirement for operators to have a responsible person nearby to help address issues as they occur.

To report an STRA-related concern, please refer to the following options:

  • Telephone Hotline (local, toll-free): (249) 487-2299
  • Online Form: Report a Concern
  • In an emergency, please call 911.
