Township of Muskoka Lakes Seeks Input on Updates to Noise Control By-law 2005-83

Members of the community are encouraged to participate in the online survey via Engage Muskoka Lakes by November 5, 2025.

MUSKOKA LAKES, ON, October 22, 2025 – The Township of Muskoka Lakes (“Township”) is undertaking a review of the Noise Control By-law 2005-83 and is seeking input from the public to help inform proposed updates. Members of the community are encouraged to participate in an online survey available through Engage Muskoka Lakes by November 5, 2025.

As outlined in Staff Report DSES-2025-034 presented to Planning Committee on October 16, 2025, the Noise Control By-law 2005-83 has seen minimal amendments since its adoption in 2005. In 2023, Council passed a motion to reprioritize the review of Noise Control By-law 2005-83 following the Short Term Rental Accommodation Licensing By-law.  

“Comprehensive by-law reviews take time but remain a key part of our ongoing commitment to good governance at the Township,” says Mayor Peter Kelley. “It’s essential that by-laws remain relevant and continue to reflect the needs of everyone who lives, works, and visits Muskoka Lakes.”

In the Township, reported noise concerns are commonly classified under topics such as sources of noise (construction, equipment, conveyances, motor vehicles, etc.), prohibited periods of time for noise sources (i.e., construction equipment starting too early on weekends), tourist entertainment operations, daytime noise or noise in public spaces.
