Voting Period & How To Vote

The voting period will take place from Wednesday, October 14 at 10:00 a.m. EST to Monday, October 26 at 8:00 p.m. EST via Internet and Telephone voting. In-person voting is available at the Township Office using our dedicated voting computers.

To vote, please refer to your Voter Information Letter for the link or phone number. If you have not received your letter, please contact the Election Help Centre for assistance.

Voter Eligibility Checklist

You are eligible if you:

Are a Canadian citizen
Are 18 years of age or older
Live in the municipality, or you are a non-resident owner or tenant of land, or the spouse of a non-resident owner or tenant
Are not otherwise prohibited from voting

You are not eligible if you:

Are serving a sentence of imprisonment in a penal or correctional institution
Are a corporation (corporations cannot vote)
Are acting as an executor, trustee, or in another representative capacity
Were convicted of a corrupt practice under Section 90(3) of the Municipal Elections Act and five years have not passed since that election

Are you on our Voters List?

Use the Township's Voter Lookup online tool to confirm that you are on the Voters’ List and make sure your information is up to date before voting begins on October 14 at 10:00 a.m. and concludes on October 26 at 8:00 p.m. EST.

With Voter Lookup, you will be able to:

Confirm that you are on the Voters’ List;
Review your voter information;
Update your information, if changes are needed; or
Add yourself to the Voters’ List if you are eligible to vote in Muskoka Lakes but are not currently listed. Find the eligibility checklist below on this page.

Even if you have voted in Muskoka Lakes before, we encourage you to take a few minutes to check your information.

Please note: Changes or updates to your voter information must be completed online through Voter Lookup or in person at the Township Office (1 Bailey St., Port Carling). Changes cannot be made over the phone.

As of September 25, 2026, any new voters added to the Voters’ List from this point forward will have their voting PIN sent to them by email or can pick it up in-person.

Types of Electors

There are three ways you can qualify as an elector:

- Resident Elector: Lives in the municipality and considers it their permanent home.
- Non-Resident Elector: Lives outside the municipality but owns or rents property here. Proof of ownership or tenancy may be required.
- Spouse of a Non-Resident Elector: Is the spouse or same-sex partner of a non-resident property owner or tenant.

Please Note: If the property is owned by a business or a trust, you would not qualify as a non-resident elector.

If you are unsure whether you qualify as a non-resident elector, contact the Clerk for clarification. Municipal clerks are responsible for verifying eligibility before adding names to the voters’ list.

Voter Identification

All electors are required to provide proof of identity and qualifying address when voting. Frequently used forms of identification include:

- An Ontario driver's licence
- An Ontario Photo Card

An Ontario motor vehicle permit (vehicle portion).
A cancelled personalized cheque.
A mortgage statement, lease or rental agreement relating to property in Ontario.
An insurance policy or insurance statement.
A loan agreement or other financial agreement with a financial institution.
A document issued or certified by a court in Ontario.
Any other document from the government of Canada, Ontario or a municipality in Ontario or from an agency of such a government.
Any document from a Band Council in Ontario established under the Indian Act (Canada).
An income tax assessment notice.
A Child Tax Benefit Statement.
A Statement of Employment Insurance Benefits Paid T4E.
A Statement of Old Age Security T4A (OAS).
A Statement of Canada Pension Plan Benefits T4A (P).
A Canada Pension Plan Statement of Contributions.
A Statement of Direct Deposit for Ontario Works.
A Statement of Direct Deposit for Ontario Disability Support Program.
A Workplace Safety and Insurance Board Statement of Benefits T5007.
A property tax assessment.
A credit card statement, bank account statement, or RRSP, RRIF, RHOSP or T5 statement.
A CNIB Card or a card from another registered charitable organization that provides services to persons with disabilities.
A hospital card or record.
A document showing campus residence, issued by the office or officials responsible for student residence at a post-secondary institution.
A document showing residence at a long-term care home under the Long-Term Care Homes Act, 2007, issued by the Administrator for the home.
A utility bill for hydro, water, gas, telephone or cable TV or a bill from a public utilities commission.
A cheque stub, T4 statement or pay receipt issued by an employer.
A transcript or report card from a post-secondary school.
