The Township's Dog Control By-law helps promote public safety, responsible dog ownership, and animal welfare across Muskoka Lakes. 

Does your dog need a licence?

A dog tag (licence) is required for all dogs over 12 weeks of age residing in the Township.

Exemptions:

  • Service Animals
  • Owners whose primary residence is outside of the Township

Step 1: Confirm your preferred licence type.

Annual Licence Lifetime Licence
$15 per dog (yearly payment)

$50 per dog (one-time payment)

Dog Owner Responsibilities

  • No more than three dogs shall be kept at one property unless the owner holds a valid kennel licence issued by the Township.
  • Dogs are not permitted to run at large and must be leashed and under control when on public property.
  • Dogs are not allowed in public swimming areas from May to September, except Service Animals.
  • Excessive barking or howling is prohibited.
  • Dog owners must immediately clean up and properly dispose of dog waste.
