Submitting a Petition

Residents and community groups are welcome to submit petitions to the Township of Muskoka Lakes on matters that fall within the Township’s jurisdiction. Petitions are an important way to share community views and bring local concerns to Council’s attention.
How to Submit a Petition
A petition organizer may deliver their petition:

In person to the Township Clerk (Municipal Office, 1 Bailey St, Port Carling ON P0B1J0)

By mail to the Township Office (Municipal Office, 1 Bailey St, Port Carling ON P0B1J0)

By fax or email to the Clerk’s Office (clerks@muskokalakes.ca)
Petition Requirements
To be accepted, a petition must:

Be in legible handwriting, in printed form, or in printable form;

Contain a contact name, mailing address and telephone (or email) of the
organizer for confirmation; -
Contain a statement or position that the signatories are supporting on each
page; -
Contain each petitioners name (printed), address and signature;

Not contain any obscene or improper matter or language.
Only petitions related to matters within Township Council or Committee jurisdiction can be received.
What Happens Next
Once received, the petition will be summarized and added to a future Council or Committee agenda. The summary will include:

The name of the group or organizer

The statement or subject of the petition
-
The number of signatures received
This summary ensures Council is informed of community petitions in a transparent and official manner.
