Property Tax Sales

If property taxes remain unpaid for two years prior to January 1, the Township may register a Tax Arrears Certificate on the property title, as outlined in the Municipal Act, 2001. These timelines apply to both residential and non-residential classes of property.
A Tax Arrears Certificate means the property could be sold if the full Cancellation Price is not paid within one year of registration. Please note that once registered, partial payments cannot be accepted.
If payment is not received, the Township may proceed with a tax sale, advertising the property for non-payment of taxes. Notices are published in local newspapers, on our website, on Ontario Tax Sales, and in the Ontario Gazette.
Tender packages are available free of charge (linked below) or in-person at the municipal office for $40 +HST.
For legislation governing the tax sale process, including definitions, please refer to the Municipal Act, 2001, c.25, including Ontario Regulation 181/03.
If you are considering participating in a tax sale, it is highly recommended that you seek independent legal advice from a lawyer licensed to practice in Ontario and in good standing with the Law Society of Upper Canada.
