The District of Muskoka is responsible for garbage and recycling services throughout the Township of Muskoka Lakes. These services include:

Lakeside Waste Collection

The District of Muskoka is launching the summer Lakeside Waste Collection program in the Township of Muskoka Lakes on Sunday, May 23, 2021.  

Every Sunday this summer, Lakeside Waste Collection trucks will be at locations in the Township of Muskoka Lakes during scheduled times, to accept household bagged garbage and recycling. This special collection is intended for residents whose homes are only accessible by boat.

Curbside Collection

Collection Issues

The District of Muskoka is responsible for waste management and garbage pick up. Please contact the District of Muskoka Engineering and Public Works Department at 705-645-6764.

  • Any service interruptions will be posted on their website.

  • You can find out your collection day, download, and print your collection calendar by using the District of Muskoka's Online Collection Calendar Tool.
  • Download their new Mobile App by searching “Muskoka Recycles” in the App Store.

Sorting Garbage and Recycling

The District of Muskoka offers their Waste Wizard Tool to help you determine how to recycle or dispose of your item.

  • Supporting documentation is available for you to download through the District of Muskoka website.

Roadside Collection and Bear Bins

  • Roadside bear bins are acceptable to hold household bagged garbage in solid coloured bags and sorted bagged recycling in clear bags. Both material should be visible to ensure collection. ideally, the roadside bear bin should be secured to a concrete pad.
  • If you are using a bear bin, make sure it has been in an approved location. It must be located 5 meters from the travelled roadway and visible to the collection driver. Please make sure the area around it and path leading to it are clear of snow, allowing the driver easy access. Bins that are not cleared will not be collected.
  • Bins require identification of 911 municipal address and a flag to indicate whether it contains waste.

  • For large volumes of waste, please visit the Rosewarne Landfill in Bracebridge. Details can be found on the District of Muskoka website.

Blue Box Recycling

Where to purchase a Blue Box

Blue Boxes are available for purchase at the District of Muskoka office. For hours of operation, fees, and other details, please visit the District of Muskoka website or call the District of Muskoka office at 705-645-2231.

  • You can also purchase a Blue Box at hardware stores and other retail locations throughout Muskoka.
  • Please visit the District of Muskoka website for alternate containers that can be used to dispose of your recyclables.
